Understanding Medicare rebates for your appointments

Your GP may have mentioned the 5 Medicare-subsidised sessions available each year—but it’s important to know these aren’t completely free. With an Enhanced Primary Care (EPC) referral or a Mental Health Care Plan (MHCP), Medicare will cover part of your session cost, and you’ll pay the rest.

You’ll pay the full fee on the day, and Medicare will rebate:

• $61.80 per session under an EPC
• $98.95 per session under a MHCP with a Registered Psychologist
• $145.25 per session under a MHCP with a Clinical Psychologist

Rebates are usually processed into your account within 24 hours.

• Psychology – $220
• Clinical Psychology – $300
• Podiatry – $85 (initial), $80 (subsequent)
• Exercise Physiology – $160 (initial), $80 (subsequent)
• Dietetics – $160 (initial), $80 (subsequent)
